Helene Cecilie Kystad to Join CAPERS for 2019-20 season!

Sydney, N.S. – Cape Breton University and CAPERS women's basketball head coach Fabian McKenzie is pleased to announce the commitment of the Norwegian U19 & Sandvika BBK club member Helene Cecilie Kystad to Cape Breton University beginning the 2019-2020 season.

The 6'3 forward from Kolbotn, Norway explained "I very much respect CBU's philosophy that they want their players to develop both on and off the court. CBU's wide range in academic choices together with options to participate in the community will provide me with valuable knowledge and experience. I think this school is the perfect academic fit to prepare me for my plans later on in life."

Head Coach Fabian McKenzie says "I am very happy that Helene has decided to attend CBU. Off the court, Helene is a very good student and is a high character individual. She is the type of person we look for and want in our program. On the court, I am very excited to work with Helene. We spent some time in the gym during her visit and she has a strong desire to improve. Helene is a very good athlete and possesses some nice skills around the basket. I also think she will develop her perimeter skills to make her a threat to shoot the 3 point shot. Helene comes from a great family and I was very impressed with her character. I look forward to working with her to reach her full potential on and off the court. "

When Helene was asked about coming to Cape Breton to further her studies and play basketball, she said, "I appreciate that the team has ambitions, and I believe that this is a good place for me to develop as a player and hopefully also contribute to the team. Even though I will be approximately 4,700 kilometres away from home, I am very excited to attend CBU and get to know the people there, especially my coaches and my teammates. I am grateful for this opportunity, and very much looking forward to becoming a part of the Cape Breton community."

The CAPERS are coming off a season in which they finished 18-2 and finished first in the AUS regular season standings. The CAPERS have won 6 AUS titles in their history with the last one coming in 2016-17.
