CBU Athletics and Membertou Sign Three-Year Partnership Renewal for 'Membertou Open'

(Sydney, NS) – Cape Breton University Athletics has signed a three-year renewal as the Title Sponsor of the Membertou Open. Membertou Development Corporation, with support of the Hampton Inn Membertou, recently renewed the partnership for the sell-out event, which will take place on Friday, September 13, at the Lakes Golf Club.

"What sets this tournament apart from others is the outstanding support that Membertou provides, "says John Ryan, Director, CBU Athletics. "The partnership elevates the event to one that many corporate partners want to support and participate in. I want to thank Chief Terry Paul for his continued support of this event. His commitment to give back to our communities is second to none. We truly value the strong partnership that Cape Breton University has built with Membertou and look forward to many more successful events working together."

The Membertou Open is an annual event which takes place at the Lakes Golf Club and is in support of CAPERS Athletics and KidSport. The event is one of the premier golf events on Cape Breton Island with many long-standing teams and sponsors.

Chief Terry Paul of Membertou says the event provides needed resources for the community. "We are thrilled to renew our commitment to Cape Breton University Athletics and to youth athletes in the community," says Paul.  "We also value our friendship with CBU and look forward to another exciting year on the course, this September."

Since the inception of this event, the tournament has raised approximately $500,000 dollars over its 22-year history. These funds have been vital to the success of CAPERS Athletics allowing them to recruit some of the best student athletes to CBU. The money raised has also allowed KidSport through Sport Nova Scotia to provide funding to allow underprivileged children the opportunity to participate in organized sport that they would not be able to do otherwise without this support.
