Capers roll into playoffs
With their lone senior leading the way, the Cape Breton University Capers men’s basketball team closed out their season on a winning note Saturday defeating the University of New Brunswick Varsity Reds 86-70 in Sydney.

Senior guard Jimmy Dorsey, playing in his final home game, paced the winning offence, finishing with 27 points, seven rebounds, five assists and four steals as the CIS No. 2 ranked Capers finished the regular season with a 19-1 record.

Freshman Kayon Mayers added 22 points on nine of 11 shooting for the home side while Sean McCormick chipped in with 12 points and 13 rebounds.

Will McAfee had a game high 32 points for the Varsity Reds while Jordan Irvine and Dan Quiron added 10 points apiece in a losing cause.

CBU will now head into the AUS championship tournament as the top seed and will take to the court next Saturday in the 6 p.m. semifinal at the Halifax Metro Centre.
