Sydney, NS – The Cape Breton University CAPERS won their opening game of the Protocase Debbie Ruiz Memorial Tournament on Friday night. The CAPERS beat UQAM 74-70. The CAPERS were led by Hannah Brown (North Sydney, NS) with 21 points and 7 rebounds. Veronique had a game-high 27 points in a losing cause. 

 

Turning Point: The CAPERS outscored the Citadens 17-9 in the third quarter to take the lead and held on for the victory. 

 

Leaders

 

* UQAM's Boivin led all scorers with 27 points

* Citadens Inga Aleksaite led all players with 14 rebounds 

* CBU's Toni Bianchini (Groves Point, NS) led all players with 6 assists

* Brown was awarded the Protocase Player of the Game for his efforts
