CAPERS return to winning ways!

(Sydney, NS) - The Capers started this game hoping to get a win on the last home game of the season. The CAPERS started off aggressive getting 2 early shots at keeper Sydney Walsh (St.Johns, NL). She had to make 2 good saves to keep the game scoreless. Rachel Leck (Pickering, ON) used nice dribble moves to get open and had a great look but the Memorial keeper made the stop. The Capers got a few good looks at the net but Memorial did is a good job to keep the ball low. In the 31st minute, Rachel Leck (Pickering, ON) got past the Memorial fullbacks and made a great shot at the top corner of the net to open up the scoring and give the CBU Capers the 1-0 lead. CBU had a few other good runs but they were not able to find the back of the net and the score stayed 1-0 at halftime

The second half started with Memorial playing with an edge showing that they are stronger than what they looked in the first, getting a few shots on Capers keeper Haley Kardas (Halifax, NS). In the 56th minute Maddy Johnson (Barrie, ON) had an open shot and had time but it went just above the crossbar. In the 58th minute, Memorial's Lauren Taylor (St. John's NL) assisted Spencer Wilkins (St, John's NL) for the goal to tie the game. The tie didn't last for long because in the 64th minute Mackinzie Smith (Ottawa, ON) shot a dazzling chip shot to give the Capers a 2-1 lead in one of the most back and forth games they have had all season.

Haley Kardas (Halifax, NS) is did a great job this game getting low, directing her team and also making sure that she always had a great angle on the ball at all times! She made a few highlight saves throughout the game to keep the Sea-Hawks off the scoreboard as much as possible. In the 83rd minute, The Capers had another good look at the net but the Memorial keeper stood strong and kept the game 2-1. In the dying seconds of extra time, the Sea-Hawks made run at the net and seemed to have a sure goal but goalkeeper Haley Kardas (Halifax, NS) made a breathtaking game-winning save to keep the Capers ahead and they ended up taking the game 2-1!
