Ellie Lancaster – a second-year goalkeeper with the Cape Breton University (CBU) CAPERS women's varsity soccer team – who registered three sensational performances to help lead her team to a fourth-place finish at the 2024 U SPORTS Women's Soccer Championship at Dalhousie University in Halifax, is the 7 By 7 Restaurant CBU female athlete of the week for the week ending Nov 10.
The Atlantic University Sport (AUS) second-team all-star this season made 11 saves, including two on penalty kicks, in CBU's 3-2 shootout victory over the Nipissing Lakers in quarter-final action on Nov. 7 at Wickwire Field.
In a nail-biting 1-0 overtime loss to the undefeated UBC Thunderbirds in semi-final action on Nov. 8, the Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Business Administration student, made several spectacular point-blank stops, including a pair of highlight-reel ones before the vaunted offense of the Canada West champions tallied the match-winning marker. She finished with an impressive 16-save performance.
Lancaster, who garnered a spot on the tournament all-star squad, wrapped up her season with six stops in a 3-0 setback to the Ottawa Gee-Gees in the bronze-medal match on Nov. 10.

Liai Tong – a 6'6" first-year forward with the Cape Breton University (CBU) CAPERS men's varsity basketball team – who was a key contributor as his team split a pair of match-ups with the rival STFX X-Men in Atlantic University Sport (AUS) regular season action, is the 7 By 7 Restaurant CBU male athlete of the week for the week ending Nov 10.
On Nov. 7, in Antigonish, the Bachelor of Business Administration student – off the bench – collected 13 points and four rebounds, in only 12 minutes, in a hotly-contested 97-91 loss.
Two nights later, on Nov. 9 at CBU's Sullivan Fieldhouse, in an 82-77 bounce-back, fourth-quarter comeback win, the St. John's, Newfoundland product – in 27 minutes – finished with 21 points and seven rebounds, both team-highs, while adding an assist and blocked shot.
Tong is averaging 14 points and 5.3 rebounds, while shooting 52.8 from the field and 83.3 at the free-throw line, respectively, to help spur the CAPERS to a 3-1 start to the AUS regular season.
