Split games on the road for CBU Men's Basketball
The CBU men's basketball team was on the road this weekend with games against Acadia on Friday night and Dalhousie on Saturday night in AUS basketball action.
Acadia fell 77–72 to the CAPERS on Friday night at Stu Aberdeen Court. Efficient shooting and late-game execution proved the difference in a tight matchup. The game opened with Acadia taking a brief lead on Davignon's free throws. CBU answered quickly through Stefan Anisko to generate a 10-point lead late in the quarter. The CAPERS closed the opening frame ahead 22–16. Acadia responded with its strongest stretch in the second quarter giving them a 37–34 halftime lead.
The third quarter remained tight, with CBU edging Acadia 18–17. The CAPERS gained momentum behind key plays from Justus Peuser. His layup and free throws late in the quarter restored the lead. In the fourth quarter, Regault briefly restored Acadia's lead at 58–54 with a strong finish at the rim. The CAPERS countered with steady scoring from Anisko and Tayshaun Thomas. Anisko's three-pointer with 1:21 remaining put CBU up 75–72. Acadia had chances to respond, but a late turnover led to a fastbreak dunk by Thomas, sealing a 77–72 Capers win.
Anisko led the CAPERS with 20 points on 8-for-18 shooting. Tafarian Black dominated defensively with 12 rebounds, while Liai Tong added 13 points, two blocks and two steals. Thomas finished with 10 points on 4-for-5 shooting and added two steals.
On Saturday, the CAPERS had another tight match up with the Dalhousie Tigers. They led the first quarter 23-20 with Aaron Cunningham and Tayshaun Thomas both putting up 7 points. The second quarter saw the Tigers slowly creep up and take the lead by 6 at the half despite Thomas adding 6 more and Stefan Anisko adding 5.
In the third quarter, the CAPERS narrowed the gap to 3 points. The remaining miutes saw the CAPERS bring the game to within 1 point with less than a minute to go. CBU was unlucky at the hoop in the final seconds and Dalhousie took the win 80-71.
