CAPERS women's basketball signs Maddie Eustace
January 30, 2026
The CBU CAPERS women's basketball program is excited to welcome Maddie Eustace to the roster this fall.
Maddie is a 5'7" guard from Riverview, New Brunswick who plans to enroll in the Bachelor of Science program at CBU. In the past year, she has played for the Riverview High School team, represented New Brunswick at the Canada Games, and participated in the 506 Elite Academy.
Maddie has been very successful in her basketball career thus far. She was an NBIAA All-Star in 2023-24 and 2024-25 as well as the NBIAA player of the year in 2023-24. She's been the MVP of her high school team for the past 2 years and has been named to the 2025 Canada U18 Women's National Team watchlist.
When asked why she chose to come to CBU in the fall, she said that after visiting other universities, CBU felt like the perfect balance of basketball and academics. "From the moment I connected with the team, it genuinely felt like a family. Everyone was welcoming, supportive and shared the same goals," she shared. "The facilities are amazing and show how much the program invests in its athletes, which made it clear that I'd be pushed to grow as a player."
Beyond basketball, CBU's close-knit campus and surrounding community really stood out to Maddie. "It feels like a place where people truly look out for one another." Maddie let us know that the smaller class sizes is important to her because it allows for more hands-on learning and better connections with professors. Maddie stated, "Overall, Cape Breton University felt like a place where I could succeed, feel supported, and grow both as a student-athlete and as a person."
Head Coach Fabian McKenzie was intent on recruiting Maddie for his program. "The first thing that stands out about Maddie is her character. She is a great person and a top-level student with an incredible work ethic," Fabian noted. "On the court she does it all. She has a tremendous ability to score in various ways and brings energy and tenacity on the defensive end. We are very excited about adding Maddie to the program."
Maddie told us she believes she can help the CAPERS next season by bringing a high level of competitiveness that pushes the team to get better every day. "I pride myself on competing hard in practices, games and putting in the extra work, and I think that energy helps raise the standard for everyone," she added when asked how she felt she could help the team next year. "On the court, I can contribute with my ability to score offensively while also being disruptive on defense by applying pressure and creating turnovers. Overall, I'm committed to doing whatever it takes to help the team succeed and grow together!"
Welcome to the CAPER family, Maddie! We're excited to have you!
