CAPERS Add Decorated Dartmouth Defender Léah Conrad to Women's Soccer Program
SYDNEY, N.S. – The Cape Breton University CAPERS women's soccer program is pleased to announce the commitment of Léah Conrad of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, for the 2026 U SPORTS season.
A versatile defensive midfielder and centre back, Conrad joins the CAPERS from École secondaire Mosaïque and the Suburban U21 Women's Team. The 5'5" defender has established herself as one of the province's top young players, earning numerous accolades throughout her youth career, including Athlete of the Year, Suburban U17 Player of the Year, and Canada Youth Cup All-Star honours.
Conrad will begin studies in the Bachelor of Science program, majoring in Biology, while competing for the CAPERS women's soccer program.
For Conrad, Cape Breton University offered the ideal combination of academic and athletic opportunity.
"I chose CBU because it offers the ideal combination of competitive soccer, strong academics, and a supportive community," said Conrad. "From the moment I met the coaching staff and some of the players, I could tell that the program is built on hard work, commitment, and a winning culture—qualities that reflect the type of player and teammate I strive to be."
"Beyond soccer, CBU's commitment to supporting its students was a major factor in my decision. Earning a university degree is just as important to me as competing at the varsity level, and I believe CBU provides the resources and environment to help me succeed both academically and athletically. I am excited to be part of a community that will challenge me to grow as a player, a student, and a person."
Known for her work ethic, soccer IQ, and resilience, Conrad believes those qualities will help her make an immediate impact within the CAPERS program.
"I believe my biggest strengths are my work ethic, sportsmanship, and soccer intelligence," admitted Conrad. "I take pride in giving my best effort every day, whether it's in training, games, or supporting my teammates. I also believe I have a strong understanding of the game, which allows me to make smart decisions and contribute in meaningful ways on the field."
"One of my greatest qualities is my ability to stay positive and resilient when things don't go my way. Throughout my soccer career, I've faced challenges and setbacks, but I've always used them as motivation to improve rather than letting them discourage me. I believe my positive attitude, determination, and willingness to work hard are qualities I can bring to the CAPERS and contribute to the team's success."
Conrad adds depth, versatility, and leadership potential to the CAPERS back line and midfield as the program continues to build for future success in the Atlantic University Sport conference.
"Léah is an all-around top student-athlete; strong in the classroom and strong on the field," stated Head Coach Ness Timmons. "As a player she is versatile in the middle of the field. With her skill set and attitude, she will be able to help us right away."
CBU Athletics welcomes Léah and her family to the CAPERS community and looks forward to supporting her academic and athletic journey in Sydney.
