Favour Akachukwu, a second-year sprinter with the Cape Breton University (CBU) CAPERS varsity Track & Field team, is the 7 by 7 Restaurant CBU female athlete of the week for the week ending February 9.
At the SMU Open track & field meet held in Halifax this past weekend, Favour placed 1st in the 60-metre sprint category with a time of 8.02 seconds, improving on her time of 8.11 that earned her a 3rd place finish the previous weekend. She also placed 4th in the 300m with a time of 42.46.
Favour Akachukwu and the CAPERS varsity track & field team will be competing again at the AUS Championship hosted by the University of New Brunswick on the Saint John Campus on February 20-23.

Shakael (Shak) Pryce – a fifth-year guard with the Cape Breton University (CBU) CAPERS varsity basketball team – is the 7 by 7 Restaurant CBU male athlete of the week for the week ending February 9.
Shak led the team in scoring in a match-up with the Saint Mary's Huskies in Atlantic University Sport (AUS) action over the weekend.
Shak netted an impressive 23 points during the match-up with the Huskies. He also added 13 assists and 7 rebounds to guide the CAPERS to the win and earn him the Subway Player of the Game. This performance puts Shak in the top spot for assists in the AUS and earns him the top spot in U SPORTS for assists per game with 7.5. Shak is also in the top 5 in the conference for points/ points per game.
The CAPERS are back in action at home on February 14 and 15 with back-to-back games against the Dalhousie Tigers. Tip-off for both games is 8pm.
