CAPERS MBB Adds Size and Versatility with Rashane Smith Commitment
The Cape Breton University CAPERS Men's Basketball program is pleased to announce the commitment of Rashane Smith (Brampton, ON) for the upcoming AUS season.
Smith, a 6'5 guard/forward, joins the CAPERS following his time at Durham College, where he was an OCAA champion. He brings a strong combination of size, athleticism, and positional versatility. A dynamic presence on both ends of the court, he is expected to make an immediate impact within the CAPERS lineup.
Off the court, Smith will enroll in the Bachelor of Arts in Community Studies with a focus in Sports and Physical Activity Leadership at CBU, continuing his commitment to growth both academically and athletically.
"I chose CBU because it felt like the right place for me both academically and athletically," said Smith. "The coaching staff believed in me, and I felt like the program would help me continue to grow as a player and as a person. The family atmosphere and the opportunity to compete at a high level made my decision easy."
Known for his competitive mindset and willingness to do whatever it takes to help his team succeed, Smith is focused on contributing in meaningful ways in his first season.
"I plan to bring energy, toughness, and a competitive mindset every day," he added. "I'm willing to do whatever the team needs to win. My goal is to contribute in any way I can and help the team compete for championships."
Smith's personal philosophy—"the toughest opponent you'll ever face is the one in the mirror"—speaks to his dedication, self-discipline, and commitment to continuous improvement.
"Rashane has been a top recruit of ours for the past two seasons," shares Head Coach Matt Skinn. He has been a dominant player at Durham with his athleticism, work ethic and hard working attitude. He is a perfect fit with our team and culture. We are thrilled that he will join us for the remainder of his career and we can't wait to have him in the CAPER community!"
The CAPERS look forward to welcoming Rashane to campus and to the program as they prepare for the upcoming season. To catch Rashane and the CBU men's basketball team in action this season, add their schedule to your calendar.
